Anthele
Anthēlé
(Ἀνθήλη). A small town of Thessaly, in the interval between the river Phoenix and the Straits of Thermopylae, and near the spot where the Asopus flows into the sea. In the immediate vicinity were the temples of Demeter Amphictyonia, that of Amphictyon, and the seats of the Amphictyons. It was one of the two places where the Amphictyonic Council used to meet, the other being Delphi. The place for holding the assembly here was the temple of Demeter. See Amphictyones.
