Nasidieni Proper-name noun: masculine nominative plural, Proper-name noun: masculine genitive singular, Proper-name noun: masculine vocative plural of Nasidienus
- I A wealthy upstart in the time of Horace, Hor. S. 2, 8, 1 sq.—
- II Another person, Mart. 7, 54.
a wealthy (beatus) Ronan, who gave a supper to Maecenas, which Horace ridicules so unmercifully in the eighth satire of his second book. It appears from 5.58, that Rufus was the cognomen of Nasidienus. The scholiasts tell us that Nasidienus was a Roman eques; but it is probable that the name is fictitious, as it is not very likely that Horace would have satirized in this way a man who was honoured by Maecenas with his company. There is another Nasidienus mentioned by Martial (7.54).
A wealthy Roman, who gave a supper to Maecenas, which Horace ridicules in one of his satires (Sat. ii. 8).
