Κίρρα
Κίρρα, Kirrha
Κίρρα, ας (ἡ) Kirrha (Cirrha) v. de Phocide, ainsi appelée d’une nymphe de ce nom, Pd. P. 3, 134 ; 10, 24 ; Plut. Lyc. 31, etc. ||
➳ Dat. sg. Κίρρῃ, Plut. Qu. gr. 13.
Κίρρα a town in the coastal plain below Delphi, serving as port of Krisa q. v., cf. Wil., 468, “Krisa und Kirrha nennt er nach Belieben, denn beides bezeichnet nur die Flur der zerstörten Stadt.” It seems that in Pindarʼs time all athletic contests, not merely horseracing, were held in the neighbourhood of Krisa.
