BRANTINGHAM E Riding, Yorkshire, England.
A Roman villa was found when two mosaic pavements were uncovered in a quarry in 1941. Subsequently tesserae were seen on the surface of a field N of the quarry and an excavation was mounted in 1962. A large mosaic pavement (10.95 x 7.65 m) was uncovered, and parts of it were moved to the Hull Museum. The pavement had a central panel of a goddess with mural crown, surrounded by eight water-nymphs in semicircular panels and bordered at each end by a row of four busts.
