Glenlochar
GLENLOCHAR Kirkcudbright, Scotland.
Air photography has disclosed a large group of Roman works comprising an auxiliary fort, four or five temporary camps, and minor structures, 3.2 km NW of Castle Douglas. No surface remains are visible. The fort is 3.2 ha in extent, with a triple-ditched annex on the N side, and its street plan suits a cohors milliaria equitata. Excavation in 1952 showed three structural periods, one Flavian and two Antonine; there was also evidence of an Agricolan fort in the immediate vicinity.
