Zimara
ZIMARA (Ζίμαρα), a town in Armenia Minor, on the road from Satala to Melitena, between Anatiba and Teucira (It. Ant. p. 208; Ptol. 5.7.2; Tab. Peut. ) The exact site is still matter of uncertainty, some finding traces of it near Pashash, others near Divriki, and others near Kemakh. (Ritter, Erdkunde, 10. p. 800.)
[L.S]A fort in a key position on the Roman E frontier. It lay 11 km N of the great bend S of the Euphrates. Ruins have been noted a short distance E of the modern village. Adatepe (formerly Pingan) on the Euphrates bank nearby has produced inscriptions, especially a tombstone of a decurion of Ala II Ulpia Auriana (CIL III, 6743), which is not necessarily to be identified with the
Ala Auriana stationed at Dascusa. Early identifications of Pingan with Dascusa are erroneous.
