Thalamēgus
(θαλάμηγος). A sort of barge used by the kings and princes of Egypt for their trips on the Nile. Cleopatra 's famous barge was a thalamegus (Suet. Iul. 52). The craft was fitted up with much luxury, and was named from the fact that it had cabins (thalami) for a numerous company. The pure Latin name is navis cubiculata (Sen. De Ben. vii. 70).
