ὦνος, ὁ,

• price paid for a thing, ὁ δʼ ἄξιον ὦνον ἔδωκε Od. 15.388, cf. Il. 21.41; ἄσπετον ὦνον ἕλοιτο Od. 14.297; ὁ δʼ ὑμῖν μυρίον ὦνον ἄλφοι 15.452; the person or thing bought being in gen., Λυκάονος ὦνον ἔδωκε for Lycaon, Il. 23.746, cf. Theoc. 1.58, Inscr.Delos 502A 17 (iii B. C.).

2) das Kaufen, Einkaufen, ἐπείγετε δʼ ὦνον ὁδαίων Od. 15.445.

ὦνος

That which is given or paid as an equivalent, a price: ὦνον ἔδωκεν Il. 21.41, υἷος Πριάμοιο ὦνον ἔδωκε [κρητῆρα] (as the ransom for him; referring to the same transaction) Il. 23.746 : ἐπείγετʼ ὦνον ὁδαίων (i.e. your buying, your bargaining) Od. 15.445. Cf. Od. 14.297, Od. 15.388 = 429, 452, 463.

ὦνος (ϝῶνος, cf. venum): purchase-money; ἐπείγετε ὧνον ὁδαίων, ‘hurry forward the delivery of the goods given in exchange for your freight,’ i. e. the return freight, Od. 15.445.
