Erysichthon
Ĕrysichthōn (Eris-), ŏnis, m., = Ἐρυσίχθων,
- son of the Thessalian king Triopas; he cut down the grove of Ceres, for which he was punished with a raging hunger, that caused him to devour his own flesh, Ov. M. 8, 471 sq.; cf. Hyg. Astr. 2, 14.
Erysichthōn, thonis, m. (Ἐρυσίχθων, von ἐρύω u. χθών = der Erdaufreißer), der Sohn des thessalischen Königs Triopas, der in einem heiligen Haine der Ceres Bäume fällte und deshalb von der Göttin mit entsetzlichem Heißhunger bestraft wurde, sodaß er sich selbst verzehrte, Ov. met. 8, 738 sqq.; vgl. Hyg. astr. 2, 14.

Erysichthon
(Ἐρυσίχθων). “Render of the earth.” The son of the Thessalian king Triopas, who cut down trees in a grove sacred to Demeter, for which he was punished by the goddess with a fearful hunger, that caused him to devour his own flesh (Ovid, Met. viii. 738; Callim. Hymn. in Dem. 34 foll.).
