Fox-Amphoux
Located slightly S of the border between the territories of the civitas of Forum Julii (Fréjus) and that of Reii Apollinares (Riez), the area of the Logis and of Clastre (commune of Fox-Amphoux) was crossed by an ancient road and may have included a mansio. Excavations have brought to light an agricultural villa with living and work rooms arranged around a peristyle. South of this villa, at the back of a vast courtyard (80 x 40 m) there is a temple (18 x 14 m) with a pronaos, cella, and appended chambers. It is, perhaps, a sanctuary ad fines, dedicated to the Capitoline triad. Indeed, a head of Minerva in white marble has been found there. A cremation necropolis is located nearby. There seems to have been regular occupation of the site from the time of Augustus until the first decades of the 3d c. A.D. In contrast, pottery of the Late Empire is scantily represented.
The archaeological material is collected in the Centre de Documentation Archéologique du Var at Draguignan.
