Hesperium

Hesperium

(Ἑσπέριου, Ἑσπέρον κέρας). The modern Cape Verde or Cape Roxo, a headland on the west coast of Africa, was one of the farthest points along that coast to which the knowledge of the ancients extended. At a day's journey from it was a group of islands called Hesperidum Insulae, wrongly identified by some with the Fortunatae Insulae. They are either the Cape de Verde islands, or, more probably, the Bissagos, at the mouth of the Rio Grande.
