Ponsas

PONSAS Drôme, France.

In Gallia Narbonensis. In 1963-64 a necropolis was discovered in the inner courtyard of the Chateau de Fontager (13th c.). It contained inhumation tombs of two types: on the upper level, tiled tombs with no grave gifts, probably Early Christian, and on the lower one, pagan tombs dug in the ground and containing grave goods from the 4th c. A.D. The site had been occupied a long time: apart from stratigraphy, a Campanian potsherd and the fragment of a 4th c. A.D. Attic cup have been found.
