Besa
or Bessa (βήσα, βήσσα, βησίον). An Alexandrian vessel used both as a drinking-cup and for holding perfumes, etc. The vessel was named from having upon it the features of the Egyptian god Bes, modelled in the clay. It was in the shape of a flask, broad at the bottom and narrowing towards the top. See Krause, Angeiologie, 379, 380, 407, 408.
