An inscription painted on a Greek vase after firing, in added color, either red or purple, and most often found on the underside of the vessel.

Description: A dipinto inscription can include a signature, ligature, marks, groups of letters or groups of numbers. Sometimes the name of the vase is painted on, often in an abbreviated form. Dipinti differ from graffiti in that graffiti is a signature, ligature, marks, groups of letters or groups of numbers scratched into the surface of the vase.
