• place round: in this sense only poet. in Pass. ἀμφίσταμαι, with intr. aor. ἀμφέστην, Ep. 3 pl. ἀμφέσταν, and 3 pl. pf. ἀμφεστᾶσι, stand around, abs., φίλοι δʼ ἀμφέσταν ἑταῖροι Il. 18.233; κλαίων δʼ ἀμφίσταθʼ ὅμιλος 24.712: c. acc., ἀμφὶ δέ σʼ ἔστησαν Od. 24.58; πεδίον ἀμφεστᾶσι πᾶν S. OC 1312, cf. Aj. 724: c. dat., ἀμφίσταμαι τραπέζαις El. 192.

ἀμφίστημι, (ἵστημι), umherstellen, Il. 18.344, Od. 8.434 ἀμφὶ πυρὶ στῆσαι τρίποδα μέγαν, entw. πυρί dat. instr. = mit Feuer zu umstellen, oder objekt. = ums Feuer zu stellen, weil das Feuer zwischen den Füßen des Dreifußes brennt ; in beiden Stellen folgt λοετροχόον τρίποδʼ ἵστασαν ἐν πυρὶ κηλέῳ;
