Arrhidaeus

Arrhidaeus (Arridaeus, Aridaeus), ī, m. (Ἀῤῥιδαῖος), Sohn des Königs Philipp von Mazedonien u. der Tänzerin Philine (Philinne) aus Larissa (Iustin. 9, 8, 2), nach Alexanders des Gr. Tode, obgleich blödsinnig, zum König von Mazedonien gemacht u. mit der Eurydike vermählt, aber 317 v. Chr. auf Olympias Betrieb ermordet, Curt. 10, 7 (22), 2 sqq. Sen. de ben. 4, 31, 1. Arrhidaeus

(Ἀρριδαῖος). The son of Philip of Macedon and a female dancer, Philinna of Larissa. He was of imbecile understanding. On the death of Alexander, B.C. 323, he was elected king under the name of Philip, and in 322 he married Eurydicé. On their return to Macedonia he and his wife were made prisoners and put to death by order of Olympias, in the year 317.
