Papias
(Παπίας). A bishop of Hierapolis in Phrygia, who flourished in the first half of the second century A.D., and suffered martyrdom at Pergamus in the year 163 (or 156). He wrote a work entitled Λογίων Κυριακῶν Ἐξήγησις, of which only fragments remain, preserved in the writings of Irenaeus, Eusebius , and others who quote them. They are collected and edited by Routh in vol. i. of his Reliq. Sacr. (1846).
