TARNIS
TARNIS( Tarn), a river in Gallia, a branch of the Garonne. It rises near Mount Lozère, in the Cévennes, and flows in the upper part of its course in a deep valley. After running near 200 miles it joins the Garonnebelow Moissac. Sidonius Apollinaris (24, 44) calls it citus Tarnis.[LESORA.] Ausonius (Mosella, 5.465) speaks of the gold found in the bed of the Tarn:-- Ft auriferum postponet Gallia Tarnem.
