προφερής, ές, eigentl. hervorgetragen, vorgerückt, daher vorgezogen, vortrefflich ; Hom. nur im comp. u. superl.: ἅλματι δʼ Ἀμφίαλος πάντων προφερέστατος ἦεν, Od. 8.128, vgl. 221 ; βίῃ, 21.134 ; im Sprunge, an Kraft ausgezeichneter als Alle sein, Alle übertreffen ; auch ἡμίονοι βοῶν προφερέστεροί εἰσιν ἑλκέμεναι ἄροτρον, Il. 10.352 ; der superl. stand vor Wolf Od. 8.129, wo dieser πολὺ φέρτατος geschrieben hat ; der superl. bes. = der vorgerückteste im Alter, der älteste, Hes. Th. 79, 361, 777 ; ἀλλάων προφερής, vorzüglich vor Allen, Sc. 260.
