Laphystium
LAPHYSTIUM
LAPHY´STIUM [BOEOTIA, 412b.]
Laphystium
(Λαφύστιον). A mountain in Boeotia, about twenty stadia to the north of Coronea, on which Zeus had a temple, whence he was called Laphystius. It was here that Athamas prepared to immolate Phrixus and Hellé, whom Zeus saved by sending them a golden ram (Pausan. ix. 34. 5).
