Szekesfehervar

SZÉKESFEHÉRVÁR Hungary.

A minor settlement in antiquity, perhaps a mansio, may have existed in the N part of the modern city, which in mediaeval times was the capital of Hungary. The settlement would have been situated along the road leading N from Gorsium toward Brigetio and Arrabona.

The city's importance for Classical archaeology is the King Stephen Museum whose archaeological collection is surpassed in Hungary only by that in the Hungarian National Museum in Budapest.
