Tassiesholm
TASSIESHOLM Dumfriesshire, Scotland.
Site of two superimposed Roman forts and two later fortlets. The earlier fort (2.4 ha) had a unique T-shaped plan caused by staggered entrances on the N and S. Its successor was almost square, ca. 165 m on a side (2.76 ha). Occupation of the site began ca. A.D. 80, but the first fort was soon dismantled to make way for the second, which came to an abrupt end before A.D. 100. At least one fortlet is of 2d c. date.
