ὑπ-όμνῡμι,
- interpose by oath, φῂς ὑπομνύς S. Fr. 339 codd. (ἐπομνύς Pearson).
- II Med., in Att. law, make oath (for oneself or another) that something serious prevents a personʼs appearing in court at the due time, and so apply for a postponement of the trial, D. 47.39, etc.; ὑ. τινὰ δημοσίᾳ ἀπεῖναι στρατευόμενον Id. 48.25; τὸν Δημοσθένην τις ὑπωμόσατο ὡς νοσοῦντα applied for an extension of the term for Demosthenes on the plea of sickness, Id. 58.43: hence, comically, ὑπώμνυτο ὁ μὲν οἶνος ὄξος αὑτὸν εἶναι γνήσιον, τὸ δʼ ὄξος οἶνον αὑτὸ μᾶλλον θατέρου Eub. 65:—Pass., ὑπομοθέντος τούτου this affidavit being put in by way of excuse, D. 48.25; ὑπομοθείσης ταύτης τῆς γραφῆς Hyp. Fr. 202.

ὑπόμνυμι, [νῡ], (ὄμνυμι), dazu schwören, Soph. frg. 313. – Gew. med. ὑπόμνυμαι, vorher schwören, Dem. 39.37 ; unter eidlicher Versicherung eines wichtigen Hindernisses Aufschub des gerichtlichen Termins suchen, Xen. Hell. 1.7.38 ; übh. sich wegen des Ausbleibens entschuldigen, ὑπωμόσατό τις τὸν Δημοσθένη ὡς νοσοῦντα, Einer entschuldigte den Demosthenes als krank und bat deshalb um Aufschub des Termins, Dem. 58.43 ; neben παραγράφομαι 47.39 ; ὑπωμοσάμεθα τουτονὶ δημοσίᾳ ἀπεῖναι στρατευόμενον 48.25, worauf folgt ὑπωμοθέντος δὲ τούτου ἀνθυπωμόσαντο οἱ ἀντίδικοι, als für ihn der Entschuldigungseid geleistet war.
