ἀλεείνω

ἀλεείνω [ᾰ], Ep., only pres. and impf. (exc. aor. ἀλεεῖναι Man. 6.736): (ἀλέα A, ἄλη):—

• avoid, shun, mostly c. acc. rei, θυμὸν ὀπίζομαι ἠδʼ ἀλεείνω Od. 13.148, al.; κῆρʼ ἀλεείνοντες Hes. Fr. 96.83: abs., ὁ δὲ κερδοσύνῃ ἀλέεινε evaded [my question], Od. 4.251: less freq. c. acc. pers., ἀλέεινε δʼ ὑφορβόν 16.477, cf. h.Merc. 239 codd.: c. inf., κτεῖναι μέν ῥʼ ἀλέεινε Il. 6.167; ἀλεξέμεναι ἀλέεινε 13.356, cf. Antim. 53:—also in Luc. Dem.Enc. 23.

ἀλεείνω, = ἀλέομαι, fast nur praes. u. impf., aor. ἀλεεῖναι bei Maneth. 6.736, vermeiden, fliehen, oft Hom., κῆρα, den Tod, in dem öfters gebrauchten Verse ἂψ δʼ ἑτάρων εἰς ἔθνος ἐχάζετο κῆρʼ ἀλεείνων z.B. Il. 3.32 ; θυμόν, den Zorn, Od. 18.148, θεοπροπέην Il. 16.36. ll, 794 ; mit inf. κτεῖναι μέν ῥʼ ἀλέεινε Il. 6.167, ἀλεξέμεναι 13.356 ; absolut, ausweichen, Od. 4.251 ; – H.h. Merc. 239 ; ἂψ ἀλέεινεν εἴσω, er zog sich nach Innen zurück, Ap.Rh. 3.650.
