- collect clouds, Ζεὺς ξυννέφει Ar. Av. 1502; σ. τὸ περιέχον Plu. QConv. 2.641d: impers. συννέφει, it is cloudy, εἰ συννέφει, εἰκὸς ὗσαι Arist. Rh. 1393a6; ξυννένοφε Ar. Fr. 46.
- 2 trans., συννεφεῖν (leg. -νέφειν) νεφέλας ἐπὶ τὴν γῆν LXX Ge. 9.14.
- II metaph. of persons, συννέφουσαν ὄμματα wearing a dark and gloomy look, E. El. 1078; κύψασα κάτω καὶ ξυννενοφυῖα βαδίζει Ar. Fr. 395 (anap.), cf. Philostr. VS 1.18.1; ἐπερωτηθεὶς διὰ τί συννένοφε D.C. 55.11.
