αὐερύω, i. e. ἀϝ-ϝερύω, Ep. for ἀν-ϝερύω, = Att. ἀναρρύω: aor. αὐέρῠσα:—

• draw back or backwards, τὰς [στήλας] οἵ γʼ αὐέρυον pulled them backwards, Il. 12.261; τόξον αὐερύοντα παρʼ ὦμον 8.325: mostly abs., in sacrifice, draw the victimʼs head back, so as to cut its throat, αὐέρυσαν μὲν πρῶτα καὶ ἔσφαξαν 1.459, cf. Pi. O. 13.81, Theoc. 25.241, AP 6.96 (Eryc.).

αὐερύω, (ἐρύω),
1) zurückziehen, νευρήν, die Bogensehne an sich ziehen, um zu schießen, Il. 8.325 ; στήλας, wieder herausziehen, 12.261 ; absol., den Hals des Opfertieres zurückziehen, um die Kehle zu durchschneiden, 1.459 ff 2.422, vgl. Scholl. Aristonic. Il. 2.422, 8.325, 12.261 ; Pind. Ol. 13.78.
2) saugen, Opp. H. 2.603 Agath. 6 (V.285).

αὐερύω (ἀνά, ϝερύω), aor. αὐέρυσα: draw up or back; of drawing a bow, Il. 8.325; loosening props, Il. 12.261; and esp. of bending back the heads of victims, for the knife, Il. 1.459.
