προφορέομαι, to carry on the web by passing the weft
προφορ-έομαι, Med., in weaving,
- carry on the web by passing the weft to and fro across the warp (the setting up of which is διάζεσθαι), Poll. 7.32, Hsch., Phot., Suid., prob. in Call. Fr. 244: hence, of a spider, τὴν ὁδὸν προφορεῖσθαι run to and fro, Call.Com. 2, cf. Ar. Av. 4; of dogs, π. παρὰ τὰ αὐτά X. Cyn. 6.15.
προφορέομαι-οῦμαι, porter en avant, particul. t. de tisserand, porter en avant les fils d’une trame, d’où fig. : πρ. τὴν ὁδόν, Ar. Av. 4, avancer et revenir sur ses pas, faire la navette ; παρὰ τὰ αὐτά, Xén. Cyn. 6, 15, avancer en suivant la même piste.
