ἀνιάζω, only pres. and impf. (exc. aor. ἠνίᾰσα AP 11.254 (Lucill.)): Ion. impf. ἀνῑάζεσκον A.R. 3.1138:—

• Ep. Verb, grieve, distress, like ἀνιάω, c. acc. pers., ὅς κεν τοῦτον ἀνιάζῃ Od. 19.323; ἀλλʼ ὅτε δή ῥʼ ἀνίαζον . . Ἀχαιούς Il. 23.721 (v.l. Ἀχαιοί).
• • II intr., to be grieved or distressed, θυμῷ ἀνιάζων grieving at heart, Od. 22.87; ἀλλʼ ὅτε δή ῥʼ ἀνίαζε was grieving, growing weary, 4.460, cf. A.R. 4.1347; κτεάτεσσιν ὑπερφιάλως ἀνιάζει he grieves for his goods, Il. 18.300; ἐπὶ παιδί Arat. 196. [ῐ metri gr. in Hom. and other Ep.]

ἀνιάζω, nur praes. u. impf.,
1) quälen, Od. 19.323 ; langweilen, Il. 23.721 ἀνίαζον ἐϋκνήμιδας Ἀχαιούς, v.l. ἐϋκνήμιδες Ἀχαιοί von Aristarch verworfen, s. Scholl. Aristonic.
2) intransit., moleste ferre, Od. 4.598, vgl. 460 ; θυμῷ ἀνιάζων, im Herzen, Od. 22.87, Il. 21.270 ; ὃς κτεάτεσσιν ὑπερφιάλως ἀνιάζει, wem sein Besitz zur Last ist, Il. 18.300, vgl. Lehrs Aristarch. p. 88. Auch sp.D.; Opp. C. 1.259 ; πληγῇ Hal. 3.150.

ἀνιάζω (ἀνίη), ipf. ἀνίαζον: torment, annoy, weary, Il. 23.721, Od. 19.323; usually intrans., be tormented, wearied; θῡμῷ ἀνῑάζων, agonized at heart, of the mortally wounded Eurymachus, Od. 22.87; similarly Il. 21.270, Od. 4.460; often weakened colloquially, ἠδή μοι ἀνῑάζουσιν ἑταῖροι, ‘are worrying’ by this time, Od. 4.598; ironically, Il. 18.300.
