προ·κύων, -κυνος (ὁ) [ῠν] chien qui se porte en avant, d’où :
1 aboyeur, fig. Anth. 11, 322 ||
2 chien couchant, flatteur ou parasite, Posidipp. (Ath. 414e).
προκύων, κυνος, ὁ, s. nom. pr.; Antiphan. 5 (XI.322) nennt die Grammatiker spöttisch πικροὶ Καλλιμάχου πρόκυνες, die bittern, kleinen Kläffer, κύνες. – Für Schmeichler aber wird jetzt richtiger πρόσκυνες geschrieben.
