- = κρυόεις, chilling, horrible, πολέμου . . φόβος A.R. 2.607; ὀ. βᾶρις, of Charon’s boat, AP 7.67 (Leon.); ἀταρπιτὸς ὀ. Parm. (?) 20; ὀκρυόειν ἔδαφος Eleg.Alex.Adesp. 1.7. (Freq. confused with ὀκρυόεις: ὀκρυόεις may have arisen from an early mistake in the division of words in Hom. (leg. ἐπιδημίοο κρυόεντος, κακομηχάνοο κ.); or ὀκ. may be cogn. with Skt. άσρυ, Lith. ašara ‘tear’, and the Adj. would then mean tearful.)
ὀκρυόεις, όεσσα, όεν, qui donne le frisson, effrayant, horrible, Il. 6, 344 ; 9, 64 ; A. Rh. 2, 607 ; Anth. 7, 67.
Étym. κρυόεις, par fausse coupe dans Il. ll. cc.
