• rope, Sch. Ar. V. 1030, Suid. (Perh. coined as an emendation of the phrase εὐκοπώτερόν ἐστι κάμηλον διὰ τρυπήματος ῥαφίδος διελθεῖν ἢ πλούσιον εἰς τὴν βασιλείαν τοῦ θεοῦ εἰσελθεῖν Ev.Matt. 19.24: but cf. Arab. jummal ‘shipʼs cable’.)

κάμιλος, [ῑ], ὁ, nach Suid. u. Schol. Ar. Vesp. 1030 Ankertau. Vielleicht aus Mißverstand der Stelle des NT, wo es heißt εὐκοπώτερόν ἐστι κάμηλον διὰ τρυπήματος ῥαφίδος εἰσελθεῖν, was im wörtlichen Sinne vom Kamel zu nehmen, wie die Araber ganz ähnlich sagen »einen Elephanten durch ein Nadelöhr gehen lassen«, und wie Matth. 23.24 vom Verschlucken eines Kameles die Rede ist.
