• animal fat, lard, tallow, Arist. Long. 467a3, cf. Pr. 935b20: pl., χηνὸς λίπη AP 9.377.8 (Pall.); βεβρῶτες αἵματος λ. gorged with fat and blood, S. Ant. 1022; but λ. αἵματος a fleck of blood, A. Ag. 1428 (lyr., λίβος Casaub.); of vegetable oil, λ. ἐλαίας S. Fr. 398, cf. Thphr. HP 3.18.3, 8.7.3, Call. Ap. 39. (Cf. λίπα, λιπαρός, λιπάω, λιπαίνω, Skt. lip- ‘anoint’, Lith. lipti ‘stick’.)

Ag. 1403 (Dindorf verm. λίβος), wie Soph. Ant. 1009, von frischem Blut eines Getöteten. – Obwohl ι kurz ist, wie in allen Compp., findet sich doch bei den Gramm. λῖπος geschrieben, Drac. p. 62.16 ; EM. p. 566.40 ; vgl. Gramm. bei Hermann de emend. Gr. gr. rat. p. 429.
