νύν
νύν [ῠ] d’ord. enclit. νυν, ou, dev. une consonne, νυ, adv. donc :
1 dans le discours pour marquer la suite d’un raisonnement : ἧκε δὲ βέλος· οἱ δέ νυ λαοὶ θνῇσκον, Il. 1, 382, il lança un trait, et les peuples mouraient ||
2 avec un impér. : ἄκουσον δή νυν, Plat. Leg. 693d, écoute donc ; ἄγε νυν, Att. allons donc ! ||
3 pour renforcer une affirmation, après δή (v. ce mot) ; après ῥα : ἦ ῥά νυν, Il. 3, 158 ; 4, 93, certes oui ! après ἤ : ἤ νυ καί, Il. 6, 439 ; après καί : καί νυ, Il. 3, 373 ; 5, 311 ; après οὐ : οὔ νυ, Il. 10, 165 ; après μή : μή νυ, Il. 1, 28 ; Od. 15, 19 ; de même après une conj. : après ἐπεί : ἐπεί νύ τοι, Il. 1, 416 ; après ὡς, Il. 2, 258, etc.
Étym. v. le préc.
νύν, u. episch auch νύ, enklitisch und mit kurzem υ, aus νῦν abgeschwächt, wie bei uns das unbetonte nun, nu ; häufig bei Hom., bes. um einen Befehl, eine Aufforderung, eine Frage als recht dringend erscheinen zu lassen, dem δή entsprechend ; οὔ νυ καὶ ἄλλοι ἔασι, Il. 10.165 ; τίς τοί νυ θεῶν, 17.469, wer doch nun der Götter ? u. öfter ; δεῦρό νυν, 23.485 ; auch die unmittelbare Folge einer Handlung auf die andere, das Annähern aus der Vergangenheit an die Gegenwart ausdrückend, nun, dann, darauf, ἧκε δʼ ἐπʼ Ἀργείοισι κακὸν βέλος· οἱ δέ νυ λαοὶ θνῆσκον, Il. 1.382 ; auch die Folgerung des Gegenwärtigen aus dem Vergangenen andeutend, nun, also, μή νυν, Pind. I. 2.43 ; Aesch. Ag. 911 ; ὅρα νυν, Prom. 999 ; βᾶθί νυν, Soph. Phil. 1181 ; σίγα νυν ἑστώς, Aj. 87 ; μέν νυν, O.R. 31, Trach. 441 ; an vielen Stellen, wo νύν durch Position lang wird, schwankt die Lesart, u. wird oft νῦν geschrieben, was eigtl. immer nur für das betonte jetzt, nun stehen sollte ; so ist δή νυν richtiger als δὴ νῦν, wo es einen einfachen Schluß bildet, ἄκουσον δή νυν, Plat. Legg. III.693d ; ἴθι νυν hat Krüger mit Recht Xen. An. 7.2.26 für νῦν geschrieben, wie μέμνησό νυν Hell. 4.1.39, ἴτε νυν 5.1.32 ; denn den Gebrauch von νύν in Prosa auf τοίνυν zu beschränken, ist kein Grund ; bei Her. scheint sogar in der Bdtg von οὖν die Form νύν vorzuherrschen, vgl. 1.18, 20.24.
νύν , νύ: now, enclitic particle, perhaps sometimes temporal, but as a rule differing from the temporal νῦν as the logical and temporal uses of ‘now’ differ in Eng. The context in each case must decide whether the word admits of paraphrasing or not. Often τί νυ; and οὔ νυ.
