1) die Schleuder, lat. funda, ein Zeug- od. Lederstreifen, in der Mitte breit, mit zwei schmalen Enden ; Il. 13.600 χεῖρα ξυνέδησεν ἐϋστρόφῳ οἰὸς ἀώτῳ, σφενδόνῃ, zum Verbinden der verwundeten Hand gebraucht ; Aesch. Ag. 982 ; ἑκαβόλος, Eur. Phoen. 1149 ; so nennen Ar. Nub. 1109 die Wolken ihre Geschosse, Hagel u. Schnee ; σφενδόναις ἁμιλλᾶσθαι, Plat. Legg. VIII.834a ; Thuc. 4.32 ; Xen. u. A.; wegen der Aehnlichkeit
   a) eine Binde, ein Verband um ein verwundetes Glied, Hippocr.;
   b) eine vorn breite weibliche Kopfbinde, Poll. 5.96 ; u. eine Binde der Frauen um die Schamteile, Hippocr., Galen.;
   c) eine Art Reisecharte in Riemenform, wie die Peutingersche Tafel, Mannert. Geogr. I p. 201.
2) das Schleudern, Wegwerfen ; – u. der geschleuderte Körper.
