Adulis

Adūlis

or Adūlé (Ἀδούλη). A city of Aethiopia, on a bay of the Red Sea called Adulitanus Sinus. It fell into the power of the Auxumitae, for whose trade it became the great emporium. Here was found the Monumentum Adulitanum (q. v.), a Greek inscription recounting the conquests of Ptolemy Euergetes I. in Asia and Thrace.
