πῖαρ, τό, nur nom. u. accus., Fett, Talg, Schmalz ; βοῶν, Il. 11.550, 17.659 ; auch ἐλαίης, Ap.Rh. 4.1133 ; der Milch, Sol. bei Plut. Sol. 16 ; übh. das Fetteste, Beste, H.h. Ven. 30 ; Fruchtbarkeit, ἀρούρης, Crinag. 23 (IX.555). – Als adj. neutr. = πῖον, fett, fruchtbar, μάλα πῖαρ ὕπʼ οὖδας, Od. 4.135, h.Apoll. 60, wo Buttmann Lexil. II p. 47 ff. es auch substantivisch erklärt, indem er πῖαρ ὑπʼ οὖδας schreibt, Fett, Fruchtbarkeit erstreckt sich unter dem Boden hin, wo man freilich ὑπʼ οὔδει erwarten sollte. Vgl. man πίειρα, so ist wahrscheinlich ein altes adj. πῖαρ anzunehmen, dessen neutr. die Bdtg eines subst. annahm.
