πᾰτέομαι, Hdt. 2.47, Call. Fr. 437, Agathocl. Fr.Hist. 6, etc.: fut. πάσομαι [ᾰ] A. Th. 1041: aor. ἐπᾰσάμην, Ep. also ἐπασσάμην (v. infr.): plpf. πεπάσμην Il. 24.642, elsewh. in Hom. only aor.:—

• eat, c. acc., σπλάγχνʼ ἐπάσαντο Il. 1.464, etc.; πασάμην Δημήτερος ἀκτήν 21.76; also, of drink, νέκταρ ἐπάσαντο Hes. Th. 642; ταύρου νέον αἷμα πάσηται Nic. Al. 312: more freq. c. gen. partit., eat of, partake of, σίτοιό τʼ ἐπασσάμεθʼ ἠδὲ ποτῆτος Od. 9.87; δείπνου πασσάμενος 1.124; πάσσασθαι ἐδητύος ἠδὲ ποτῆτος 10.384, etc.; so always in Hdt., 1.73, al.: rarely abs., eat, taste food, πάρος γε μὲν οὔ τι πεπάσμην Il. 24.642. — Ep. and Ion. word, twice in A., τούτου σάρκας . . λύκοι πάσονται Th. 1041; τί κακὸν . . ἐδανὸν ἢ ποτὸν πασαμένα . .; Ag. 1408 (lyr.); once in S., ἠθέλησε δʼ αἵματος κοινοῦ πάσασθαι Ant. 202; twice in Ar., in mock heroic lines, Pax 1092, 1281. —Act. form πατέω only in Orion 162.20. πατέομαι, aor. ἐπασάμην, ep. πάσσασθαι, perf. πέπασμαι, Il. 24.642 (sonst bei Hom. nur aor.), kosten, essen, zehren ; bei Hom. bald mit den gen. σίτου, οἴνου, λωτοῖο, ἐδητύος, ποτῆτος, δείπνου, ἀμβροσίης, νέκταρος, bald mit den acc. σπλάγχνα, Δημήτερος ἀκτήν, auch zuweilen ohne Casus ; bei Hes. nur Th. 642 mit dem acc.; bei Her. stets mit dem gen., 1.73, 2.37, 47, 4.186 ; den acc. vrbdt damit auch Agathocles bei Ath. XIV.650a ; der aor. auch Soph. Ant. 202 ; in Orion p. 162.20 ist auch das act. πατέω angeführt und durch ἐσθίω erkl.; vgl. Schol. Lips. Il. 1.464 ; Ath. I.43 erkl. ἀπογεύσασθαι, οἱ δὲ νεώτεροι ἐπὶ τοῦ πληρωθῆναι.
