τάχᾰ, Adv., (τᾰχύς)

• quickly, presently, forthwith, freq. in Hom., who, like Pi. (O. 2.29, 4.83, al.) and B. (5.89), uses it only of time, Il. 1.205, 2.193, al.; ἦ τ. soon iʼfaith, Od. 18.73, 338; of past time, τ. δʼ Ἕκτορος ἄγχι γένοντο Il. 8.117: also in Trag.and (more rarely) Att. Prose and Com., with fut., τάχʼ εἴσομαι A. Th. 261, cf. Ag. 489, 1649, Ch. 305, S. OT 84, Ar. Ra. 527, Pl. Sph. 247d, etc.; ἔοικα θεσπιῳδήσειν τ. A. Ag. 1161; πέμψον πρὸς ἐμὲ τ. Sammelb. 7356.25 (ii A.D.); in this sense not found in LXX or in Papyri (exc. l.c.); τάχα ἐπειδάν, = ἐπειδὰν τάχιστα, as soon as, Pl. Phdr. 242a.

Icar. 10; τάχʼ ἄν alone, in answers, Pl. Sph. 255c, R. 369a, etc.: strengthd., τάχα . . ἴσως Ar. Th. 718; ἴσως τ. X. HG 7.1.24; τ. τοίνυν ἴσως D. 21.191; τάχʼ ἂν ἴσως Pl. Plt. 264c; τάχʼ ἴσως ἄν Id. τάχα, adv.
1) Homer gebraucht τάχα häufig, z.B. Il. 1.205, 2.193, 23.606, Od. 18.73, 338, 19.69, nach Aristarchs Beobachtung überall als Zeitpartikel, gleichbedeutend mit ταχέως, Scholl. Aristonic. Il. 14.8, Od. 1.251, Lehrs Aristarch. ed. 2 p. 92, 159. Ob das Wort nach Aristarchs Ansicht bei Homer überall die Bedeutung »bald« habe, = »nach kurzer Zeit«, oder nur an einigen Stellen diese Bedeutung »bald«, an anderen die Bedeutung » schnell«, = »während kurzer Zeit«, kann zweifelhaft erscheinen. – Hes. Th. 490, Sc. 32, 87, O. 312, 362, 401, 721 ; die Stelle O. 401 zeigt den Uebergang zu der Bedeutung »wahrscheinlich«. – Pind. P. 2.29, 4.83, 171, 220. – Hier und da auch bei Attikern in der Homerischen Bedeutung, vgl. Ruhnk. Tim. p. 151, Heind. Plat. Phaedr. 228c ; τάχʼ εἴσομαι Aesch. Spt. 243, 641 ; Soph. O.R. 84 ; Ar. Th. 66, Lys. 1114 ; λέγε καὶ τάχα εἰσόμεθα Plat. Soph. 247d ; Euthyphr. 9c ; αὐτό σοι τάχα δηλώσει Critia. 108c ; τάχʼ ἐπειδάν, = ἐπειδὰν τάχιστα, sobald als, Plat. Phaedr. 242a.
2) Meistens hat bei den Attikern, besonders in Prosa, τάχα die Bedeutung »wahrscheinlich«, = ἴσως, s. oben s.v. ἄν S. 166, vgl. B.A. 309.20 Schaefer Mel. p. 124 zu Greg.Cor. 44, Wolf, Dem. Lept. p. 235. Beispiele : Plat. Gorg. 466a, Prot. 318d, Phaedr. 259c, Sophist. 247d, 255c, Polit. 264c, Legg. I.629a, IV.711a, Aeschyl. Eum. 488, Sept. 896, Soph. O.R. 523, 1116, Aj. 1021, Trach. 637, 663, Phil. 305, Ar. Th. 718.

Il. 2.193, Il. 3.436, Il. 6.52 (was just on the point of doing so), Il. 9.573, Il. 11.654 (i.e is as likely as not to do so), Il. 14.8 (referring εἴσομαι to εἴδω III.1), Il. 16.71, Il. 19.131, Il. 23.606 (easily), etc.: Od. 1.251, Od. 2.40, Od. 4.514 (was just on the point of doing so), Od. 8.202, Od. 14.265, Od. 19.69, Od. 20.393, Od. 21.369 (you will soon find that it is ill to . . .), Od. 22.78 (will soon find that this is the last of his shooting), etc.

    Without delay or loss of time, with all speed, at once, forthwith, straightway: τάχα δʼ ἄμμε διαρραίσεσθαι ὀΐω Il. 24.355. Cf. Il. 14.8 (referring εἴσομαι to ἵημι2 4): τάχα Τηλεμάχῳ ἐρέω Od. 18.338. Cf. Od. 12.387, Od. 18.115, 389, Od. 21.374, Od. 23.23.
