ἐπιτίμιον, the value, price; assessment of damages, penalty
ἐπιτίμ-ιον, τό, mostly in pl., ἐπιτίμια, τά,
- value, price, or estimate of a thing, i.e.,
- 1 the honours paid to a person, ἔστʼ Ὀρέστου ταῦτα τἀπ. S. El. 915 (nisi leg. τἀπιτύμβια).
- 2 assessment of damages, penalty or penalties, ἐ. διδόναι τινί inflict.., Hdt. 4.80, cf. E. Hec. 1086, etc.; τῶνδε τἀπ. for these things, A. Pers. 823; τοῖς ἐ. ἔνοχοι τοῦ φόνου Antipho 4.1.4; τὰ ἐκ τῶν νόμων ἐ. Lycurg. 4; ἐ. δυσσεβείας the wages of ungodliness, S. El. 1382, cf. X.
